Summer Financial Aid
If a student wishes to be considered for summer financial aid, they must have a Financial Aid application on file and be enrolled for summer courses. If the student received financial aid for fall and spring terms we will use the same application for summer.
Applications for assistance cannot be fully considered until all the required documents are received by the Financial Aid Office and the applicant's admission status as a regular degree-seeking student is approved by the Admissions Office.

Federal Funds
Federal Pell Grant:
Beginning Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, Pell Grant will prorate based on exact enrollment per credit hour due to FAFSA simplification
Federal SEOG Grant:
Undergraduate students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and demonstrate the highest financial need according to their SAI (Student Aid Index) on the FAFSA for that academic year. Limited Funding.
Federal Direct Loans:
Students may be offered Federal Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized loans if eligible. However, there are annual borrowing limits, so if students have borrowed the full limit in the fall and spring, they may not be eligible for additional loans in the summer. - Undergraduate students must enroll for at least six (6) hours.
- Graduate students must enroll for at least three (3) hours.
Federal Graduate PLUS Loans:
Parents can apply for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan to assist with costs associated with summer. If parents borrowed in the fall and spring and wish to borrow in the summer, they may need to complete a new credit application, as the credit approval is only valid for 6 months
Graduate students need to apply Application for Direct Plus Loans

Graduate students may also apply for a Federal Direct PLUS Loan to assist with costs associated with summer. If graduate students borrowed in the fall and spring and wish to borrow in the summer, a new credit application may be required due to the 6-month validity of credit approval.
Graduate students need to apply Application for Direct Plus Loans
Federal Work-study Employment:
Must enroll at least 3 hours in one of the summer sessions to continue employment. Must meet other eligibility requirements.
State and institutional Funds
Grant funds for the summer semester are limited. These funds are not guaranteed from year to year and are offered based on availability.
State Texas Grant:
For current eligible TEXAS grant recipients, that enroll in 9 or more hours. Cancellation of the full grant will occur when the student drops below 9 hours. Limited funding.
State Work-study Employment:
Must enroll at least 3 hours in one of the summer sessions to continue employment. Must meet other eligibility requirements.
Getting Ahead Scholarship (up to $500):
Undergraduate Students, eligibility based on funding, 3.0 GPA, and enrollment. Priority is given to those students enrolled for at least nine (9) hours. Limited Funding.
TPEG Dusty Grant (up to $500):
Undergraduate Texas residents who demonstrate financial aid need with TASFA application. Limited funding.

State College Access Loans:
Available for Texas resident students. Apply at www.hhloans.com.
Alternative Private Loans:

TAMIU Emergency Loans:
The Bursar’s Office will be offering emergency loans for tuition & fees as well as for books.
