Study Abroad Students
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) offers a wide range of Study Abroad destinations for students of all majors and interests.
Students interested in participating in the Study Abroad program should first meet with the International Experience Office.
After meeting with the International Experience Office, students may find exploring their financial aid options beneficial. It is essential for students planning to study abroad to be financially prepared for international travel.
Applying for Aid
Federal aid, such as Direct loans and the Pell Grant, can often be used to fund study abroad programs. Scholarships, grants, and alternative loans may also cover study abroad program costs and expenses.
All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. You must submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to TAMIU to do so.
Applications for assistance cannot be fully considered until all the required documents are received by the Financial Aid Office and the applicant's admission status as a regular degree-seeking student is approved by the Admissions Office.
Your budget will be adjusted during processing to reflect the study abroad program costs. An adjustment to your financial aid budget does not necessarily mean you will receive additional financial aid. The student must seek additional resources if the aid offered does not cover all program expenses. We encourage you to explore other options.
Key Points to Keep in Mind:
- Apply and submit your FAFSA to TAMIU.
- Be accepted into the study abroad program by the International Experience Office.
- Register for degree-applicable courses.
- Understand that financial aid funds will not be released until after the 12th class day of your course.
- Acknowledge that failure to complete the study abroad program, or withdrawal, can result in paying back part or all of your financial aid awards.
