Repeated Coursework

Federal regulations limit your eligibility for federal financial aid when repeating a class. These regulations apply to students receiving federal aid and needing to repeat a course they have previously passed.

You can receive federal aid for retaking a previously passed course only one additional time (where "passed" means a grade of "D" or better).

Example Scenario:

You take a course and receive a passing grade of ‘D’, but you need a ‘C’ for the course to count toward your degree requirements. You retake the course the following semester and again earn a ‘D’. Even though you need to retake the course to fulfill your degree requirement, you are no longer eligible to receive federal financial aid for that course.

Additionally, the repeated course will not count toward your enrollment for financial aid purposes. For instance, if you are enrolled in 12 credit hours, but one of those hours is considered a third repeat, only nine credits will count toward your federal financial aid eligibility. This will affect your cost of attendance and may reduce the amount of financial aid you are eligible to receive.
