International Students
International students are not eligible for federal aid and cannot apply for the FAFSA. However, to support international students with their educational costs, TAMIU offers different programs that students may apply for to receive funding. Additionally, we encourage students to explore scholarship opportunities.
Applications for assistance cannot be fully considered until all the required documents are received by the Financial Aid Office and the applicant's admission status as a regular degree-seeking student is approved by the Admissions Office.
Undocumented students can use the college guide for undocumented students to find information on the DREAM Act and DACA, How to find and apply for colleges, and Financial aid for undocumented students.

The Mexican Tuition Waiver Program is a financial assistance program designed to provide in-state tuition rates to a small amount of qualifying Mexican students with financial need attending public universities in Texas. This waiver allows eligible Mexican nationals or residents to pay the same tuition fees as Texas residents, rather than the higher out-of-state tuition rates typically charged to international students.
To qualify for the Mexican Tuition Waiver, students must meet certain requirements, including:
- Mexican Citizenship: Applicants must be a citizen of Mexico.
- Residency: Students must be a resident of Mexico
- Financial Need: Students must demonstrate financial need based on institutional guidelines.
- Application Process: Applicants are required to complete the appropriate paperwork and provide necessary documentation.
The Mexican Tuition Waiver Application should be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid. The application deadline is the first class day of the semester for which you are applying. Please ensure you allow a minimum of two weeks for processing.
