International Leadership Series

Global Goals at the ILS

Your learning, thinking and actions—both now and after graduating—are integral to achievement of a more just, secure and sustainable global future. In an effort to fulfill the university’s mission to build the global citizens at TAMIU, The Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement and the Office of International Experiences teamed up to create the International Leadership Series (ILS). That is why the International Leadership Series, a premier leadership program, is comprised of 60-minute speaker seminars, featuring speakers discussing domestic and global challenges, that examine the seven elements of global citizenship as defined by Oxfam.

In the 2019-2020 Academic Year, sustainability was the central element under examination. In the 2020-2021 Academic Year, social change was the central element under examination. In 2021-2022 Academic Year, human rights was the central element under examination. In the 2022-2023 Academic Year, we explored the central element of power and governance. In the 2023-2024 Academic Year, we explored the central element of peace and conflict.

Our theme for the 2024-2025 academic year is Globalization and Interdependence!

As part of the International Leadership Series this year, we hope participants are able to see themselves as social change advocates. It is important to understand specific concepts and analyze the role they play.

  • Attend all six International Leadership Series (ILS) speaker seminars
  • Complete a reflection after each speaker
  • Create and submit a piece of art for the Art for Social Change exhibition in April 2025.
