- February 28, 2019 - Laredos Zona Económica Exclusiva / Zonas Francas – Sesión Informativa
The Office of Global Initiatives co-sponsored the information session titled: Laredos Zona Económica Exclusiva / Zonas Francas with the Hispanic International, Estrategia Aduanera and El Financiero, Bloomberg. The event took place at the Student Center Auditorium. The speakers included Dr. Pedro Trejo Vargas from Monterrey and Mr. Jorge A. Lagos Ramón.
- March 4, 2019 - Memorandum of Understanding signed with the State of Coahuila de Zaragoza
The Secretariat of Education of the State of Coahuila de Zaragoza visited TAMIU to sign a memorandum of understanding. The agreement was signed by Dr. Pablo Arenaz, TAMIU President, and by Dr. Higinio González Calderón, Secretary of Education of the State of Coahuila. The purpose of this agreement is to strengthen the relationship between TAMIU and the State of Coahuila universities.
- March 6-8, 2019 - Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León Advisory Board
The Law and Criminology School of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León invited Mrs. Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter, Assistant VP for Global Initiatives to be part of the International Advisory Board of their School. Mrs. Calderon and other international scholars participated in a 2-day workshop to bring innovative ideas to the table for this leading Institution.
- March 8, 2019 - Cluster Automotriz de Nuevo León, A.C. (CLAUT) visits TAMIU
The Automotive Cluster of the State of Nuevo Leon visited TAMIU on March 8. A total of 45 company executives and students from the Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) participated in a workshop where they were able to learn about international trade between Mexico and the United States, competitiveness and international treaties, in addition to a presentation offered by the Graduate School of TAMIU.
- March 21, 2019 -100,000 Strong In the Americas Innovation Fund Winners Ceremony
The School of Engineering and Dr. Guillermo Domínguez, together with the Universidad de Quilmes, in Quilmes, Argentina participated in the innovative fund competition offered by the 100,000 Strong in the Americas program. TAMIU and Universidad de Quilmes were selected as winners of the fund. With this funding, the two universities will exchange students for a short period to work on a project.
- April 2-4, 2019 - 19th North American Higher Education Conference: "Strategic Higher Education Internationalization in North America: Successful Practices & Lessons Learned"
The Office of Global Initiatitves was present at the 19th North American Higher Education Conference in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mariana Barberena, U.S. Mexico Relations Coordinator presented on a case study of best practices in binational collaboration.
- April 8-11, 2019- Office of Global Initiatives presenting at conference in the Dominican Republic
María Eugenia Calderón-Porter, Assistant VP for Global Initiatives and Director of the Binational Center at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) was the keynote speaker at the conference entitled: "The Laredo-Nuevo Laredo development experience, between the United States of America and Mexico", which took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This event was part of a 3-day forum offered by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development of the country.
- April 11, 2019- International Executive Seminar- Industrial Engineers Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo
A group of 75 students from the Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo spent a day at TAMIU listening to different speakers during the International Executive Seminar. The group of students were able to take information on TAMIU’s graduate programs and hear from Dr. Guillermo Domínguez and the most update information on the energy industry. Other topics covered during the seminar were the industrial engineer in the logistics industry.
- April 15, 2019 - Memorandum of Understanding signed between TAMIU and the MInistry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Pablo Arenaz, President of Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and Mrs. Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter, Assistant VP for Global Initiatives are in the Dominican Republic signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) of the country. With this agreement, the two institutions commit to working together for the development of different projects.
- April 30, 2019 - Why Art? Book Presentation and Art Exhibit
The Office of Global Initiatives hosted a book presentation with artist Margarita Molano Decanini for her book titled Why Art? which discusses why art is important in children's education. Presentation was followed by an exhibit of the Artexpressions of Laredo children's artwork.
- May 20, 2019 - International Visitor's Leadership Program Europe
The Office of Global Initiatives hosted an International Leadership Visitor’s Program group, which consisted of 12 participants from different parts of Europe. The group was in Laredo for one day learning about the dynamics of our border city.
- June 2019 - Delegation of Diplomats from the Dominican Republic Visit TAMIU / Laredo
TAMIU’s Office for Global Initiatives hosted a diplomatic delegation from the Dominican Republic, which visited the Port of Laredo as a result of a Memorandum of Agreement signed in April in the Dominican Republic. The delegation visited several locations of interest in our port.
- June 2019 - First International Executive Seminar for Criminology Students of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León
The Office of Global Initiatives held the first International Executive Seminar for Criminology students of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. During their one week stay at TAMIU the students were able to learn about criminology & the correctional system in the United States of America and visit the municipal and district courts as well as the county prison.
- July 2019 - Specialized English Workshop for Law professors of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León
The Office of Global Initiatives hosted the 4th generation of professors from the Law School of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (U.A.N.L.) for an intensive specialized English workshop. During their stay the group was also able to learn from practitioners in their field.
- September 2019 - Binational Art Exhibit
TAMIU and the Office of Global Initiatives hosted the opening ceremony of the IV Binational Art Exhibit with the Mexican Consulate General in Laredo, Tx. Artists from both Laredo, Tx and Nuevo Laredo participated with their paintings.
- September 11, 2019 - Unveiling of Documentary Machinery Center of Excellence and Expertise
The documentary shows the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Machinery Center of Excellence and Expertise, located at our TAMIU campus, and its collaborative work with the office of Global Initiatives, the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development and the Western Hemispheric Trade Center.
- September 2019 - TAMIU signs Memorandum of Understanding with DICEX
TAMIU signed a memorandum of agreement with international logistics company DICEX. DICEX has 27 offices throughout Mexico and the United States. This collaboration will benefit our students and international community.
- October 2019 - International Executive Seminar with Systems Engineers of Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo
- October 2019 - "Muerte Desmitificada" Binational Art Exhibit
- November 2019 - Students of the Universidad Tecnológica of Nuevo Laredo visit TAMIU
- December 2019 - Binational Liaison Mechanism Meeting (BLM)
TAMIU / The Office of Global Initiatives hosted the first Binational Liaison Mechanism meeting in several years. The meeting was coordinated by the Mexican Consulate General in Laredo, Texas and the U.S. Consulate General in Nuevo Laredo. Representatives from government and private entities on both sides of the border were present at the meeting.
- December 2019- TAMIU signs Memorandum of Agreement with Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador
