January 25, 2018 - CONALEP visits TAMIU for MOA Signing

Representatives from the Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica (CONALEP) from the State of Tamaulipas visited TAMIU and signed a memorandum of agreement. The CONALEP is a national high school system in Mexico and in the State of Tamaulipas, which has over 9,000 students. CONALEP wants to send students to the International Language Institute (ILI) to improve their English speaking skills.

March 2, 2018 - TAMIU and the Office of Global Initiatives host representatives of different countries.

Today Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and the Office of Global Initiatives hosted a group of 15 government and nonprofit representatives from different countries, including Afghanistan, Costa Rica, Finland, Kenya, Norway, Republic of Korea and Turkey, among others. The group was welcomed by TAMIU's President Dr. Pablo Arenaz.

March 3, 2018 - International Women's Day March at International Bridge

The International Women's Day celebration at International Bridge one was organized by the Mexican Consulate General in Laredo, Texas, the Binational Center / Office of Global Initiatives of TAMIU, the Instituto Cultural Mexicano de Laredo, the U.S. Consulate General in Nuevo Laredo, the Women's Forum and Allies of Nuevo Laredo, as well as by the Instituto Municipal de la Mujer de Nuevo Laredo.

March 8, 2018 - International Women's Day

The Office of Global Initiatives was present at the LMA's Monthly Breakfast Membership Meeting, celebrating International Women's Day.

July 20, 2018 - Professors from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León take ESL course at the International Language Institute

A group of 15 university professors and English instructors from the Facultad de Criminología y Derecho (FACDYC) of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (U.A.N.L.) finished a one-week Special English Skills Workshop at the International Language Institute (ILI) at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). This is the third year that the Office of Global Initiatives and ILI host the attorneys and instructors of the FACDYC in a collaborative effort between TAMIU and the U.A.N.L.

September 5, 2018 - Opening of the "III Muestra Binacional de Artes Plásticas"

The Office of Global Initiatives was present at the opening of the “III Muestra Binacional de Artes Plásticas”, coordinated with the Mexican Consulate General in Laredo, Texas. The exhibit took place at the Zaffirini Student Success Center’s first floor at Texas A&M International University, from September 5 - 25, 2018.

September 2018 - Office of Global Initiatives @ 14th Annual Getenergy Global Conference

In September, our Texas A&M International University Asst. Vice President for Global Initiatives, Maria Eugenia Calderon-Porter, traveled to Amsterdam, Netherlands to speak at the 14th Annual Getenergy Global Conference.

October 2018 - Office of Global Initiatives presented at National Women in Leadership Conference in Harvard

Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter Asst. Vice President for Global Initiatives was invited to present at the 2018 National Women in Leadership Conference at the Harvard Faculty Club in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

October 18, 2018 - Office of Global Initiatives Offers Energy Workshop to State Representatives from Coahuila, Mexico

On October 18, 2019 a group of State Representatives from the State of Coahuila de Zaragoza in Mexico came to TAMIU for a workshop on energy at the Office of Global Initiatives. Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter, Assistant VP for Global Initiatives presented to the group on energy best practices in Texas. The Office of Global Initiatives coordinated this visit with the Cluster Energético of Coahuila.

October 30, 2018 - TAMIU signs MOA with Universidad del Noreste from Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Universidad del Noreste (UNE) from Tampico, Tamaulipas Mexico. The President of the UNE, Dr. Lilia Velazco del Angel and TAMIU's President, Dr. Pablo Arenaz signed the agreement. Attendees at the event included Ambassador Carolina Zaragoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo, Texas, the Political Consul of Mexico in Laredo, Texas, Jose Alberto Canseco, as well as Vice Presidents and Deans of TAMIU.

November 1, 2018 - Representatives of the Organization of American States visits TAMIU

The Office of Global Initiatives hosted representatives from the Organization of American States’ Inter-American Counter Terrorism Committee this week. During their visit they met with Customs and Border Protection, City officials as well as with students at TAMIU.
