  • February 3, 2016 - Mexico Business Delegation

A business delegation from different parts of Mexico visited Texas A&M International University. The group met with the Office of Global Initiatives, the Texas Center for Border Economic & Enterprise Development. During their visit they toured the campus and received information from the Graduate Admissions counselor from the College of Business. 

 

  • February 4, 2016 - Universidad Tecnológica del Norte de Coahuila visits TAMIU / Office of Global Initiatives

The Universidad Tecnológica del Norte de Coahuila (UTNC) visited the Office of Global Initiatives. The UTNC wants to send their students to our International Language Institute to improve their English language skills.

 

  • February 18, 2016 - Signing of Memorandum of Agreement with Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP). Representing the Director of the IMP, Dr. Ernesto Rios Patrón, was Mr. Rafael Ramos Palmeros, Director of Talent Development.

 

 

 

  • March 16-17, 2016 - U.S. / Mexico Investigation and Prosecution Techniques Seminar

Texas A&M International University and the Office of Global Initiatives hosted the very first U.S. / Mexico Investigation and Prosecution Techniques Seminar. 

 

 

  • March 21-25 , 2016 - Visit to Argentina- Signing of Memorandum of Agreement with Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires and the Instituto de Estudios para el Desarrollo Exportador 

The week of March 21-25 the Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter, Assistant Vice President for Global Initiatives, traveled to Argentina to hold meetings with varied interests reflecting the new vision of success their new president Mauricio Macri has laid out.  During the visit TAMIU met with Mr. Pablo Orlandi, Director of the Energy Business Unit of SIDECO AMERICANA, a long established infrastructure and services group founded by Mr. Franco Macri, father of President Mauricio Macri, 60 years ago. Mr. Orlandi is also the Co-Founder of the Instituto de Estudios Para el Desarrollo Exportador (IDEX), and TAMIU signed an agreement that would associate TAMIU and IDEX to promote US and Argentine developments in the infrastructure and energy areas, integrating academia and research, in accordance to the latest agreements established by both countries. TAMIU’s Binational Fellow and international business professional, Dr. Steve Mon Dragon serves on the board of directors of IDEX and was instrumental in creating the pathway for this alliance.  TAMIU also signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA), a private engineering university in Buenos Aires. The university alliances will focus on the formation of an association that will provide joint research for renewable and non-renewable sustainable energy projects.

  • April 5, 2016 - Human Trafficking in the Americas- Speaker Event

Texas A&M International University and the Office of Global Initiatives, with the U.S. Consulate General hosted the conference titled: "Human Trafficking in the Americas".  Mr. Fernando Garcia-Robles, the Anti-Trafficking in Person's (TIP) Unit at the Organization American States (OAS) was the guest speaker invited by the Department of States.

  • April 8, 2016 - Measuring Success as Regional Partners- Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo-Industrial Engineers

The Office of Global Initiatives started off this morning with presentations to a group of 80 Industrial Engineers from The Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo. The speakers included Dr. Rafael Moras from St. Mary's University; Elsa Valay-Paz from Sempra U.S. Gas & Power; Dr. Federico Schaffler from the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development from TAMIU, as well as Susan Alford, Director of Graduate Recruiting from TAMIU and Imelda López, Graduate Admissions Counselor from the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business of TAMIU. 

 

 

  • April 14, 2016 -Instituto Mexicano del Transporte Visits Office of Global Initiatives

Dr. Gastón Cedillo, Senior Researcher of the Instituto Mexicano del Transporte (Mexican Transportation Institute) met with the Director of the Office of Global Initiatives, Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter, as well as the Director of the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development (TCBEED) Dr. Federico Schaffler. Visiting the Office of Global Initiatives with Dr. Cedillo was Mr. Gerónimo Sandoval from the Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo and Mrs. Ofelia Garza, President of the Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CANACINTRA) Nuevo Laredo. 

 

 

  • April 15, 2016 -Students from the State of Coahuila and Laredo visit TAMIU

The Office of Global Initiatives and the Office of Recruitment received a group of high school students from the state of Coahuila and from Laredo. The Office of Recruitment gave them information on how to apply to TAMIU. The group toured the campus and visited the planetarium.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • April 22, 2016- "Chulas Fronteras" Documentary

 On Friday April 22 the Office of Global Initiatives / International Language Institute presented the Documentary "Chulas Fronteras" at the Western Hemispheric Trade Center. The 1975 documentary explores the origins of        "conjunto" music on both sides of the U.S/México border by introducing main genre performers.  This event was open to all the TAMIU Community.

  • April 22, 2016- Zika Virus Roundtable

On Friday April 22 the Office of Global Initiatives was present to support Rep. Henry Cuellar's Zika Round Table Meeting, in which officials from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), local health agencies and institutions from Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, and Mexican universities among others discussed the importance of working together as a binational community to educate and disseminate information on how to prevent and detect Zika virus.

  • April 30, 2016- "Best Practices for ESL Teaching on the Border"

The Office of Global Initiatives and the International Language Institute hosted the first workshop on ESL teaching on the border region, titled: "Best Practices for ESL Teaching on the Border". A group of educators and students from Laredo, TX and Nuevo Laredo were present.

  • May 5, 2016- MOA Signing with Universidad Politécnica de Monclova-Frontera (UPMF)

On May 5th  Texas A&M International University signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Universidad Politécnica de Monclova-Frontera (UPMF). The Rector of the UPMF, Mr. Anteo Ayala Garza was accompanied by the Deputy Secretary of Higher Education of the State of Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mr. Raul Vela Erhard, who signed the agreement as an honorary witness.   • May 18, 2016- Pro-Inclusión Centro de Atención Integral Anniversary

The Office of Global Initiatives was present at the celebration of Pro-Incusion Centro de Atención Integral 1 year anniversary. Pro-Inculsion is a nonprofit based in Nuevo Laredo that supports the education of children, youth and adults with disabilities. The Office of Global Initiatives recognizes the work Pro-Inculsion and its founder Martha Luján have done during their first year of service to the community of Nuevo Laredo and the region.

  • May 24, 2016- "La Reforma Eléctrica de México: Las Nuevas Reglas del Juego"

The Office of Global Initiatives and the Binational Center hosted the conference titled: "La Reforma Eléctrica de México: Las Nuevas Reglas del Juego". Presenting were experts: Mr. Javier Zenteno Barrios, Attorney from Mexico City, representing Zenteno-Lira Mora Abogados; Mr. Jorge Echániz Pellicer, Director of the Electric Industry, of the Secretariat of Energy of Mexico; and Dr. René Ochoa Ochoa, Vice President of Operations of Enerlogix-Solutions.

  • June 14, 2016- Texas A&M International University / Office of Global Initiatives Visit to Washington, D.C.

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is working on several collaboration projects with Argentina.   • June 21, 2016- MOA Signing with Universidad Tencológica de la Región Carbonífera

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Universidad Tecnológica de la Región Carbonífera (UTRC), from the state of Coahuila. The agreement was signed by our President, Dr. Pablo Arenaz and their Rector, Ing. Julio César Montenegro Hernández. Present at the signing was Maria Eguenia Calderón-Porter, Assistant VP for Global Initiatives, Mariana Barberena, U.S. Mexico Relations Coordinator of the Office of Global Initiatives, Malania Lozano and Isa Maria Garcia from the Universidad Tecnológica from the Región Carbonífera.

  • July 18-22, 2016- Group of Law Professors from the Facultad de Derecho y Criminología from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (U.A.N.L.)

The Office of Global Initiatives and the International Language Institute of TAMIU received a group of 14 professorsr from the Law School of the U.A.N.L. for a week English intensive course. The group included English and Law Professors from the Law School.  During their visit they were able to visit with Honorable Judge Jesús Garza, from Webb County Court-at-Law No II.  This was the first group of professors from the U.A.N.L.  Law School to take an English course at our International Language Institute, and we will be receiving more groups each summer.

  • July 24-30, 2016- Office of Global Initiatives Travels to Dominican Republic/Haiti

The Office of Global Initiatives was invited by the Embassy of the United States at Dominican Republic to present at several events and institutions.  Asst. Vice President for Global Initiatives, Maria Eugenia Calderon-Porter was received by Political Officer Brian S. Quigley of the Department of State to coordinate visits.  Some of the places where we participated are the Industrial Association of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), National Council of Private Enterprises (CONEP) hosted by Center for Innovation and Professional Training (CAPEX) in Santiago de Chile, and CODEVI in Ounamnithe, Haiti.  Also met with Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, with the Haitian Chamber of Commerce, and with AmCham Haiti members.  During this visit, was also interviewed by Forbes Magazine, by Radio Fidelity 94.1, which is broadcasted in Dominican Republic, and by the Newspaper "La Informacion" from Santiago de Chile.

 

 

  • August 16-19, 2016- Office of Global Initiatives Participated at the Association of Binational Centers of Latin American Conference

From August 16-19 the Association of Binational Centers of Latin America (ABLA) held its yearly conference in Houston, Texas. The ALBA Conference consisted of sessions related to English as a second language teaching and other best practices of the Binational Centers in Latin America.  The Office of Global Initiatives participated in the University Forum session and was able to network with Binational Centers in Latin America who want to partner with Universities in the United States.

  • August 25, 2016- Delegation from the Republic of Haiti visits TAMIU

The Office of Global Initiatives received a Delegation from the Republic of Haiti.  The Delegation came to Laredo to learn more about how our border City works and to learn from experts at TAMIU on energy issues. At TAMIU they met with Maria Eugenia Calderón-Porter, Associate VP for Global Initiatives, Dr. Guillermo Domínguez, Director of the School of Engineering and with Dr. Steven Mon Dragon, Fellow of the Office of Global Initiatives. The Delegation was led by Mr. Max Antoine, Executive Secretary of the Border Technical Commission of the Republic of Haiti.  A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed with the Border Technical Commission (FTC for its name in French). The group toured the World Trade Bridge and the International Airport and met with Bridge Officials to learn about tolls. Mr. Antoine mentioned he will be coming back to Laredo with a larger delegation of government officials.

  • August 26, 2016- TAMIU Signs Memorandum of Agreement with Tecnológico Nacional de México

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Tecnológico Nacional de México, a system that encompasses 266 universities in México. The agreement was signed by Dr. Pablo Arenaz, Interim President of TAMIU, Mtro. Manuel Quintero Quintero, General Director of the Tecnológico Nacional de México. Invited as Honorary witnesses were Consul Carolina Zaragoza, Consul General of México in Laredo, Texas and Dr. Ofelia Angulo, Secretary of Extension and Outreach of the Tecnológico Nacional de México.  TAMIU and the Office of Global Initiatives had been working with the regional Universities that belong to the Tecnológico Nacional's system, and this agreement will now open the door to TAMIU for all the universities the system has in México.

  • September 7, 2016- TAMIU Signs Memorandum of Agreement with Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas /  II International Academic Forum on Energy and Society

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT). The agreement was signed by Dr. Pablo Arenaz, Interim President of TAMIU and C.P. Enrique Etienne Pérez del Río, Rector of the UAT.   • September 23, 2016 - TAMIU hosts Laredo Community College and Representatives of Mexican Universities

TAMIU hosted Laredo Community College and representatives of four Mexican Universities, Universidad Tecnológica de Matamoros, Universidad Tecnológica de los Valles Centrales de Oaxaca, Universidad Politécnica de Ramos Arizpe and Universidad Tecnológica de Acuña. During the roundtable the group discussed possibilities for collaboration between TAMIU, LCC and the Mexican Universities.

  • September 30, 2016- Office of Global Initiatives Participates in Border Legislative Conference in Saltillo, Coahuila, México

The Office of Global Initiatives participated in the 30th Border Legislative Conference (BLC) in Saltillo, Coahuila, México.  The BLC has served as a facilitator and a liaison for the binational dialogue between legislators of the ten bodering states of México and the United States of America.  The ten states include: Texas, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and  Tamaulipas.

  • October 14, 2016-  Administration Students from the Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo visit TAMIU

Today the Office of Global Initiatives hosted a group of 60 Administration students from the Instituto Tecnolgico de Nuevo Laredo, for an entire day of conferences. The presentations were offered by the Office of Graduate Studies, the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business, the Texas Center, el Quinto Sol restaurant, Wal-Mart and the Office of Global Initiatives. We thank the Instituto Tecnologico de Nuevo Laredo and all our presenters for their support.

  • October 17, 2016-  Office of Global Initiatives and the International Language Institute receive 15 Mexican Students under Proyecta 100 Mil Program

The Office of Global Initiatives and the International Language Institute (ILI) received a group of 25 Mexican students from 3 different universities, who will be studying ESL at ILI for 1 month. These students are being sponsored by the Proyecta 100 Mil Initiative of the Mexican Federal Government. The group was welcomed by the Office of Global Initiatives and Consul General Carolina Zaragoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo, Texas.

  • November 10, 2016-  Office of Global Initiatives hosts Computer Systems Engineering Students from the Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo 

The Office of Global Initiatives and the Binational Center of TAMIU hosted and prepared a day of conferences for the Computer Systems Engineering students of the Instituto Tecnologico de Nuevo Laredo. A total of 35 students and professors were present at the event.

  • November 17, 2016-  Office of Global Initiatives presents at Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas (IIJ) at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)

Assistant Vice President of Global Initiatives of TAMIU, Maria Eugenia Calderon-Porter spoke to a group of professionals at the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas (IIJ) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM), in Mexico City.   • November  2016-  Farewell Reception and Award Ceremony for Proyecta 100 Mil Students 

A farewell recption and award ceremony was hosted in honor of the 25 students from Mexico that spent an entire month at the International Language Institute under the Proyecta 100 Mil Program, sponsored by the Mexican Federal Government. The 25 students represented the states of Querétaro, Campeche and Quintana Roo. During the award ceremony the students were congratulated by Mexican Consul General Carolina Zaragoza and U.S. Consul General Phillip Linderman, as well as by their instructors and all the staff of the Office of Global Initiatives.

  • December 2016-  Dominican Republic and Haiti Congressmen Delegation Visit TAMIU and Laredo, Texas

The Office of Global Initiatives hosted a Delegation of Dominican Republic and Haiti Congressmen. The delegation visited TAMIU and Laredo, Texas to observe the international border and its development. During their visit the delegation also met with Mexican Congressmen.

In addition, a historical Cooperation Agreement between the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Haiti was signed, at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). The agreement signed serves to solidify both countries’ commitment to work together to stimulate industrial development, international trade, quality of life at the border and access to infrastructures that support the development and expansion of their border businesses in addition to accessibility to low-cost energy from nearby markets. Dr. Pablo Arenaz, President of TAMIU, Brian Quigley, Political and Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Dominican Republic, and Melinda Crowley, Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Haiti signed the agreement as honorary witnesses. The visit of the Delegations of Dominican Republic and Haiti was organized and coordinated by the Office of Global Initiatives.

  • December 8, 2016-  Signing of Memorandum of Agreement with Mexican Consulate General and the Program for International Nonprofit Excellence (PINE)

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between the Mexican Consulate General and the Program for International Nonprofit Excellence (PINE).  The purpose of the agreement is to establish a collaborative framework between the two parties in order to offer training to the non-profit organizations that provide protection and promote the rights of Mexican nationals who reside in the County of Webb in the state of Texas.
