
What is a Work-based Learning Experience?
A work-based learning experience is defined as a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work related to a student’s field of study or career interest. A work-based learning experience gives a student the opportunity for career exploration and development, and to learn new skills.
*Any local or external internship opportunities related to your major will be reviewed for a consideration of $3,500.
Intern Program Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Attend Mandatory Orientation and Workshop in Professionalism
- Pick-up Welcome Packet and discuss detailed information of tasks/responsibilities
- Set student appointment dates with ASC and CRC for the duration of the program
- Submit Offer Letter of internship
Failure to attend Orientation will result in immediate dismissal from AIRES Internship Program.
- Begin Internship on Official AIRES Internship Start Date
- Spring 2025 - Monday, February 3rd, 2025
- Summer 2025 - Monday, June 9, 2025
- Submit Weekly Experience Journals, Sunday of every week by 11:59 PM
- Journal guidelines found in welcome packet and Blackboard organization
- Submit Weekly Time Logs, Sunday of every week by 11:59 PM
- Copy of time log found in welcome packet and Blackboard organization
- Attend the required meetings with ASC
- Attend the required Career Services Sessions with CRC in any of the following: Resume Review, Career Advising, Employment Search, Mock Interview, or Graduate Advising
- Complete a total of 90 Internship Hours (120 during the Summer)
- Attend Final Presentation Meeting with an AIRES team member to review presentation draft
- PowerPoint Guidelines found in welcome packet
- Participate in the Final Presentation of overall knowledge/skills gained, career preparedness gained, and overall experience to the AIRES committee, AIRES students, and other invited guests
*Please note that the AIRES Committee reserves the right to place an AIRES student, in any program, on probation, rescind partial/full stipend disbursements, or terminate student from any AIRES program for failure to fulfill all disclosed tasks and responsibilities as required.
- Meet criteria stated above (Student Responsibilities section)
- Must be an upper level (Junior or Senior) undergraduate student at TAMIU
- Must be a U.S. Citizen/National and/or Permanent Resident
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have a STEM major declared: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Pre-Engineering, Science with Grades 7-12 Certification, Mathematics with Grades 7-12 Certification, and Management Information Systems
- Must remain in Good Standing throughout participation in the internship program
- Must have a GPA of at least 2.50
- GPAs between 2.0 and 2.50 will be considered on a case-by-case basis
- If applying for the fall or spring semester, applicants must be registered for the semester in which they will participate. If applying for the summer semester, applicants must be registered for either the summer or the upcoming fall semester.
