About this Funding Opportunity

The TAMIU AIRES Conference Experience aims to enhance TAMIU's STEM curricula by providing opportunities for students to apply career-readiness skills at a national and/or regional level professional conference.TAMIU AIRES will provide professional development opportunities for students. Students that attend STEM conferences to present research will be able to receive up to $2,250 in financial assistance.

Please note while the opportunity is open for these students, selection for funding follows a competitive process.

To ensure adequate time for review, students must submit AIRES Conference Travel Funds Application Form at least (4) weeks prior to the date of departure or conference participation (if virtual).

Biology

In June 2024, Edgar Alan Canales, Briana Valdez, and Augusta Martinez presented their Biology research alongside their mentor, Dr. Ruby Ynalvez, at the Plant Biology Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Systems Engineering

Miguel presented his "Stakeholder analysis using cognitive mapping concept in construction projects" research at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Conference in New Orleans, LA.

Ariana presented her "Determination and Comparison of Antioxidant Activities of South Texas Acacia Species" research at the Plant Biology Conference in Savannah, GA.

Student Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be an upper level (Junior or Senior) undergraduate student at TAMIU
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen/National and/or Permanent Resident
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have a STEM major declared: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Pre-Engineering, Science with Grades 7-12 Certification, Mathematics with Grades 7-12 Certification, and Management Information Systems
  • Must be in Good Standing
  • Must have a GPA of at least 2.50
    • GPAs between 2.0 and 2.50 will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Application Procedure:

  • Complete all sections of the AIRES Conference and Travel Funds Application Form.
  • Upload all required documents in the last section (Required Documents) of the Application Form:
    1. Evidence of Conference Participation (i.e., acceptance email/letter, name and abstract in program, etc.).
    2. Abstract (include name of all authors).
    3. Resume/CV.

Once Submitted:

Once the Application Form has been submitted, the AIRES Team will review the application packet. If approved for funding, students will be notified via email.

Reimbursement Procedure:

  • During the conference: students must save all receipts from travel (airfare, taxi, gas, registration, meals, lodging, etc.).
  • Upon return: on/before one month from return of travel, students are required to submit all requested documentation.
