Deadline to apply for Spring 2025: January 1, 2025
- The ASC will reach out via phone/email to schedule a meeting, after determining student eligibility.
- The ASC will review both the student's academic records, opportunity interest stated on application, and academic viability of the opportunity with the student.
- Eligible applicants will be provided with an interview date and time with the AIRES Career Readiness Coordinator.
- The CRC will interview applicants to determine whether the student’s interests in the internship program and/or the internship opportunity align with grant objectives and overall success in the program.
- Applicants searching for Local Internships will be reviewed to ensure they are matched, according to interests and viability of opportunity in accordance with their major, to a local employer contracted by the TAMIU AIRES Internship Program.
- Applicants with External Internships will be reviewed for the viability of the internship in accordance with the student’s major.

- The AIRES Committee will review all applicants thoughtfully and thoroughly upon completion of the application process.
- Accepted applicants will receive an official acceptance notice (via email) from the AIRES Academic Success Coach, including details regarding Orientation and Pre-Orientation requirements.
- Acceptance Notice and Offer Letter sent to accepted applicants – Friday, August 30th, 2024 (Fall 2024) & Friday, January 24th, 2025 (Spring 2025)
- Deadline to submit your signed Offer Letter AND register for Orientation – Sunday, September 1st, 2024 (Fall 2024) & Sunday, January 26th, 2025 (Spring 2025)

Spring 2025 - Friday, January 31st, 2025
- Students will receive detailed program requirements/tasks and student guidelines.
- Includes a workshop on “Professionalism in the Workplace”.
- Appointments in advising and career services sessions will also be scheduled at this time.
*Please note that the AIRES Committee reserves the right to place an AIRES student, in any program, on probation, rescind partial/full consideration disbursements, or terminate student from any AIRES program for failure to fulfill all disclosed tasks and responsibilities as required.
- Meet criteria stated above (Student Responsibilities section)
- Must be an upper level (Junior or Senior) undergraduate student at TAMIU
- Must be a U.S. Citizen/National and/or Permanent Resident
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have a STEM major declared: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Pre-Engineering, Science with Grades 7-12 Certification, Mathematics with Grades 7-12 Certification, and Management Information Systems
- Must remain in Good Standing throughout participation in the internship program
- Must have a GPA of at least 2.50
- GPAs between 2.0 and 2.50 will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Our program will provide employers with qualified student interns, and ensure student interns are assigned an internship mentor. We will provide one-to-one consultation to student interns on professional responsibilities and academic progress, with Career Readiness Coordinator and Academic Success Coach, respectively. Additionally, we will monitor the student intern's conduct and address any concerns that may arise during the internship experience between the student intern and the employer. The internship mentor will track weekly progress reports, time logs, and experience journals. Lastly, we will provide a $3,500 consideration to upper-level STEM students participating in an eligible internship opportunity.

TAMIU AIRES is a Comprehensive Readiness Program for upper-level STEM students at TAMIU aimed at ensuring degree completion and preparation for success in the workforce upon graduation. TAMIU AIRES provides academic support services and career-readiness opportunities, such as work-based learning, professional development, financial literacy training, networking, collaboration, and conferencing experiences. The 5-year grant funded by the Department of Education, Title V, aspires to institutionalize the academic support services and career-readiness opportunities the project provides so that they are readily available to future upper-level STEM students at TAMIU.
