About

TAMIU MSEIP Engineering Program will provide middle and high school students the opportunity to participate in a one-week workshop at TAMIU over the summer.

The goal of this program is to enhance the students’ interest in engineering as a potential career, develop middle and high school students’ analytical skills, and help students to prepare for college-level classes through age-appropriate instruction in physics, mathematics and engineering principles.

This program will be conducted by experienced TAMIU faculty, local high school teachers, engineering students who will serve as instructors and mentors. The participant will learn to work in teams as they will be given the opportunity to design, assemble, and program their own functional robots and participated in a competition. In addition, students will advance their soft skills by presenting their project and discussing it with their peers.

The workshop will feature team assignments; local site visits, such as the TAMIU Planetarium and the School of Engineering Robotics lab; panel discussions with local engineers and engineering faculty; and information sessions on the University application process, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.

July 2021 Virtual workshop

TAMIU MSEIP Engineering Program will provide middle and high school students the opportunity to participate in a one-week workshop at TAMIU over the summer. This program will take place virtually from July 12-16, 2021.

The goal of this program is to enhance the students’ interest in engineering as a potential career, develop middle and high school students’ analytical skills, and help students to prepare for college-level classes through age-appropriate instruction in physics, mathematics, and engineering principles.

The workshop will feature a new topic, which is Additive Manufacturing and 3D Design/Modeling/Printing techniques.

Student admission to the program will be based on a written essay that contains student career interests, her/his capability and skills, reasons for an interest in engineering, and lists of perceived challenges to earning a degree.

This program will be conducted by experienced TAMIU faculty, local high school teachers, engineering students who will serve as instructors and mentors. The participant will be given the opportunity to learn about converting hand sketches to 2D designs, then create a 3D model, and program their 3D printers to manufacture their prototypes. In addition, students will advance their soft skills by presenting their project and discussing it with their peers.

  • 9 a.m. -12 p.m.: Introduction to Engineering Disciplines
  • 1 - 4 p.m.: Introduction to Additive Manufacturing
• Tuesday July 13, 2021
  • 9 a.m. -12 p.m.: Introduction to 2D Sketching and Design
  • 1 - 4 p.m.: 2D Design Hand-on Activities
• Wednesday July 14, 2021
  • 9 a.m. -12 p.m.: Introduction to 3D Sketching and Design
  • 1 - 4 p.m.: 3D Design Hand-on Activities
• Thursday July 15, 2021
  • 9 a.m. -12 p.m.: Build up your own 3D Printer and Introduction to 3D Printing
  • 1 - 4 p.m.: 3D Printing Hand-on Activities
• Friday July 16, 2021
  • 9 a.m. -12 p.m.: 3D Printing Hand-on Project
  • 1 - 4 p.m.: Workshop Presentation and Award Ceremony
