Master of Arts in Communication
Mission Statement MA in Communication
The Master of Arts in Communication at TAMIU provides practical and applied knowledge with the right combination of theory and practice to understand the role, performance, impact and potential for improvement of communication practices in bi-national and international contexts which will in turn improve the quality of life for citizens of the border region, the state of Texas, and national/international communities. TAMIU’s strategic location along the U.S.-Mexico border provides an exceptional laboratory to explore the importance of journalism, political and organizational communication and media studies where two nations meet and where economic asymmetries and major cultural differences shape, affect, and transform human interaction, thus providing our students with the platform to become leaders in a global society. Responding to the widespread coexistence and use of English and Spanish in both sides of the border, some courses may be offered in Spanish.
Goals of the MA in Communication

- To improve the quality of life for citizens of the border region, Texas, and national and international communities.

Our Program

The thesis track requires the completion of 30 semester credit hours (SCH), while the non-thesis track requires 36 SCH. Full-time students can complete their degrees in approximately two years. Both thesis and non-thesis tracks prepare students to pursue doctoral studies or professional work in national/international organizations.
