Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta seal

Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society was established in 1924. On April 04, 1994, Texas A&M International University established its local chapter, Alpha Gamma Omicron, and 10 years later, the society is actively successful.

Alpha Gamma Omicron's goal is to promote literature in fun and diverse ways. As a result, the society stays active throughout the academic year by fundraising, volunteering their time at the local public library, participating in TAMIU's annual Halloween Festival, and attending local and regional academic conferences. Furthermore, its most remarkable tradition is the Medieval-Renaissance Festival, which takes place every Spring semester. Both TAMIU and the Laredo community enjoy and benefit from this festival because diverse cultures are explored in appealing and entertaining ways.

Members are currently designing a web page to promote the English profession. It will contain an online scrapbook, resourceful information, useful links, and upcoming events.

Inductees are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Students must be majoring/minoring in English
  • Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA

If you are interested in becoming a lifetime member or know a possible candidate, please email chapter sponsor: Dr. Robert Haynes (rhaynes@tamiu.edu)
