Programs


Welcome to Fitness & Recreational Programs. Our goal is to provide our TAMIU community with various options to manage both their physical and mental wellbeing. Our programs consist of Group Fitness, Personal Training, and Outdoor Adventures. Each program consists of various services which include fitness classes, body composition assessments, specialty classes, bike maintenance seminars, hiking, and more. Outdoor Adventures offers several activities such as biking, hiking, and other outdoor educational seminars. No bike? No problem. Bikes are available for rent to students and staff attending group rides. All standard group bike rides and activities are except for specialty programs, are FREE for Rec Sports members; all enrolled TAMIU students are members.

Events

Aqua Aerobics

Dive into a refreshing workout with our Aqua Aerobics class! This class is designed for people of all ages and abilities and promises to be both fun and effective. Using the resistance of water, each movement is designed to work your muscles while minimizing impact on your joints. Our expert instructors will guide you through a variety of exercises that target your arms, legs, and core muscles, improve your cardiovascular fitness and flexibility, and leave you feeling rejuvenated and energized. The upbeat music and friendly atmosphere will make this class feel like a splash in the pool with friends! Join us every Tuesday and Thursday for fun in the sun.

Aqua Aerobics starts July 11-August 03, 2023 at 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Residential Life Pool.

Aqua Aerobics Interest Form


Description

Hike & Sketch

Find the artist in you! Make quick sketches of nature and learn about plantlife and wildlife in the area. Sketching supplies (sketch pad and pencil) are provided during the hike, while supplies last. Reserve your spot today by signing up.  

Bike Rides

Bike rides are open to the TAMIU community. Explore the trails that the city has to offer by joining us on a bike ride. Rides are set in different parks around Laredo. Rides vary in terrain and difficulty. No bike? No problem! Reserve a bike when you sign up for a bike ride (bikes are limited). 

Kayaking

Our outdoor adventures program is designed to get people outside and experiencing the thrill of kayaking. Our guides will provide you with all the necessary equipment and instruction to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable adventure on the water. Come explore the beauty of nature from a whole new perspective and join us on a kayaking adventure today!

TAMIU Rec Sports Group Fitness offers a wide selection of fitness classes for an array of fitness levels. Whether you're an experienced fitness enthusiast or a beginner, our fun and energetic team of instructors will help you in your fitness journey. The Personal Training Program aims to help participants develop healthy habits through exercise by providing educational seminars, Small Group Training, and Personal training to our TAMIU community. 

Personal Training

The Personal Training program is excited to bring you  Personal Training. Make the most out of 2023 and meet your fitness goals by gaining access to personal training staff, personalized workouts, access to fitness equipment and more! You can choose to have a personal one-on-one session or invite your friends to train with you. Sign up today!

Bring Fitness to your Group
 
Looking for a chance to energize your office, your fraternity/sorority, or your residence hall? Request to have a group fitness instructor/personal trainer come to your organization for a private class, a special event, a weightlifting seminar, or a presentation.
 
 Examples of what we can provide include (but are not limited to) fitness presentations, small group workouts, Dance fitness, yoga, and much more!

Outdoor Adventures

Want to bring the outdoors to your organization? Are you interested in team building adventures like bike riding, geocaching/scavenger hunts, or biking/hiking seminars? Request an outdoor guide.
