Silent Movie Saturday Returns to TAMIU

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

The much-renowned silent horror classic, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,” was shown accompanied by live organ on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. in the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission was free of charge and open to the public. Donations were accepted at the door to support music programming.

University organist and Chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Colin Campbell performed his live improvisation on the Sharkey Corrigan Organ to accompany the silent film.

“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” has long been praised and might be considered the first true horror film. The film’s narrative explores authority, madness, and the blurred line between reality and illusion. It has been renowned for its stylized, angular sets and distorted visual aesthetics.
