Basic Gardening Guide
Cultivating Community and Sustainability
A farm is a reflection of those who manage it. The TAMIU Community Garden strives to create a healthy, laidback learning environment for those who wish to learn how to cultivate food through organic means. Everyone is welcome. Farming is a universal activity that everyone should be able to enjoy and grow from.
Starting Your Garden
Every gardening session is demoed through raised beds. However, in-depth discussions on how to cultivate food both from the ground and in planters is discussed thoroughly for the sake of our volunteers and their willingness to learn.
Enduring the Heat
Our climate can be brutal! When visiting the Garden, it is recommended you wear breathable and expendable clothing, closed-toed shoes, and a head-covering. Don't forget to bring a hydration source and sunscreen.
Get Involved with the Garden Community
Like all things in life, a gift of time or treasure can help things grow…and the Garden is no exception.
If you’d like to grow with us, we’d welcome you. Volunteers meet on site most Wednesdays from 5 – 7 p.m. and we’d love to visit with you by phone or email as well.
