Growing Art
The beauty of gardens and plants have long inspired artists. Who can ever forget the impressionist Monet’s Water Lilies series at his Giverny home? Flowers and garden-sourced foods have long been a source of colorful dyes for a broad spectrum of artistic creation. And that’s just a start!
We believe the Garden should be a fertile home for creativity, inspiration and learning… a place where we can all grow.
The Print Planter
The Print Planter project draws heavy inspiration from the plant life, environment, and planter structures found at the TAMIU Community Garden. Three-quarter replicas of the planters were created by TAMIU Printmaking students using wood, metals, and ink. Zucchini and cucumber leaves were pulled from the Garden and used to create the ink printing found on the metallic leaves of the replica planters.
Contributing students include Alieda García, Angel González, Alex Carbajal, Chris Carreon, Kassandra Romero, Melissa Arredondo, and Joshua Moreno.

If you’d like to grow with us, we’d welcome you. Volunteers meet on site most Wednesdays from 5 – 7 p.m. and we’d love to visit with you by phone or email as well.
