Dance
Texas A&M International University offers students the option to minor in dance (18 credit hours) or to take dance courses as general electives. The Fine and Performing Arts building houses two dance studios and a full size performance theater. Dance courses are given by accomplished faculty members and are offered in the following genres:
- Ballet
- Ballet Folklorico
- Dance Conditioning
- Flamenco
- Jazz
- Modern
Dance minors are also required to take courses in:
- Dance History
- Improvisation
- Concert Choreography
- Dance Conditioning
Dance Performaces
Every semester culminates in a major performance (2 nights) with all dance classes performing. They are filmed by Laredo Public Access Television.

TAMIU's Ballet Folklorico wins big at the Dance Adjudication Festival
The TAMIU Ballet Folklorico traveled to Edinburg, Texas on Saturday, March 4, 2023 to participate at the UTRGV Dance Adjudication Festival where several traditional folklorico and contemporary folklorico groups from Texas gathered to compete. Four TAMIU students competed in the category 'University Contemporary Folklorico'. The group received two trophies: Best Contemporary Folklorico Solo (Marla Munoz) and Best Overall Contemporary Folklorico Group. All four dancers received medals, but only the best solo received a trophy.
- 1st place Contemporary Folklorico Solo: Marla Munoz
- 2nd place Contemporary Folklorico Solo: Andrea Flores
- 3rd place (tied) Contemporary Folklorico Solo: Ana Rodriguez
- 3rd place (tied) Contemporary Folklorico Solo: Belmaris Veliz
TAMIU's Ballet Folklorico wins at regional competition
Texas A&M International University Ballet Folklorico traveled to compete on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the "Bailes de Mi Tierra Competencia Folklorica" in Cedar Creek, TX. 23 dancers traveled to compete at Cedar Creek High School. The group competed with 9 entries, including 4 solos, 3 duets, and 1 cuadro (group piece).
They won in the University/College Category:
- 1st place intermediate solo, Carolina Hinojosa
- 2nd place intermediate solo, Victoria Moreno
- 1st place advanced solo, Angelica Favela
- 2nd place advanced solo, Jonathan Ruiz
- 1st place beginner duet, Naila Garza and Denisse Garza
- 1st place intermediate duet, Jonathan Ruiz and Clarissa Buenrostro
- 1st place advanced duet, Angel Flores and Victoria Dubon
- 1st place beginner cuadro “La Diaspora Africana en Veracruz, Mexico”
