Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences!
The Department of Social Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines including Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, and Sociology. In addition, we also have an undergraduate minor in Geography. Each of these programs enable our students to think critically about the modern world and engage in social science research. Graduates of our department will fill a variety of critical roles in the public and private sectors. Consequently, our faculty is committed to building future leaders who are equipped to meet the challenges of the new century.
The mission of the Department of Social Sciences is to provide our students with the theoretical, empirical and/or substantive knowledge in their respective discipline, to provide them with a diversity of approaches, and to instill in them a desire for lifelong learning. Our programs prepare students to:
- Think critically and communicate effectively
- Increase their knowledge base and appreciate the global nature of their world
- Participate actively in their education through collaboration with faculty in research and professional activities
- Become involved as leaders in their communities
- Pursue postgraduate and professional degrees in a variety of fields
