Responsible Conduct of Research

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), responsible conduct of research is defined as “the practice of scientific investigation with integrity. It involves the awareness and application of established professional norms and ethical principles in the performance of all activities related to scientific research.“

Beginning January 4th, 2010, TAMIU formalized Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training in accordance with the new Federal Research Guidelines effective January 2010.

TAMIU requires all faculty, students, and staff working on externally sponsored research to complete the on-line CITI Responsible Conduct of Research training course and/or a minimum of 8 hours of face-to-face training (NIH funded research must do face-to-face training) AND the necessary IRB or IACUC training during the first semester of the project. If the research involves any export of data or materials, all Principal Investigators and students must follow export control guidelines.
