Current Projects
Tennis Courts
In 2014, Laredoans passed Proposition 1 authorizing the City to finance a Sports Complex on the Texas A&M International University campus. Created for the benefit of South Texas, the Tennis Center at TAMIU is a unique, first of its kind partnership between the City and the University and will include 18 tennis courts. Laredo’s idyllic weather will allow for year-round tournaments between players from across the nation and Mexico, further reinforcing the University’s international mission.
Health Science Education and Research Center
The 57,000 gross square foot Health Sciences Education and Research Center will create an interactive clinical building that successfully promotes learning and research within the health sciences through interaction of the public with TAMIU faculty and students. The construction of this facility will allow for greater clinical/demonstration appointments for the community through the public facing communication disorders, kinesiology research, and community counseling centers.
Western Hemispheric Trade Center Expansion
The 25,200 gross square foot expansion to the Western Hemispheric Trade Center building will create an integrated business building that will serve as a hub for all campus and community business school activities. The expansion will serve as a resource for local and regional business leaders and provide easy access and greater visibility to public facing research and public service centers, increasing the users of these centers. The expansion will consist of classrooms and office spaces.

Academic Innovation Center
The 117,703 gross square foot academic building organized around a central atrium includes nine classrooms ranging from large auditoria to medium-sized flat-floor classrooms and 13 teaching laboratories. The building embraces an education-on-display and flexible spaces model that support co-curricular experiences and has tech-rich learning environments to support students’ ability to apply critical thinking.
University Police Department Building
The University Police Department Building houses purchasing, receiving, print and mail services, and campus safety and planning, in addition to the police department. The building is designed to support a modern police department’s needs while retaining a college teaching focused multi-functional facility. Today the building houses other areas that support the university’s administrative support functions, these other offices, were also previously housed in the library were relocated to allow for a future reimagining of the library building as a modern learning commons.
