TAMIU Presents "Cine de la Frontera" Film Screening Monday, May 12
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will present "Cine de la Frontera," a graduate student-led film screening exploring culture, identity and storytelling Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse.
Organized by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences' department of Psychology and Communication and the Graduate School, the event showcases original short films created by TAMIU graduate students exploring life on the U.S.-México border.
“Cine de la Frontera” is free and open to the public. Seats are limited. Participants will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Through powerful visuals and bold narratives, students examine the voices, histories, and everyday moments that define the borderland experience. From generational traditions and grassroots movements to the universal themes of resilience and transformation, “Cine de la Frontera” is a tribute to the richness and complexity of border life.
Among the featured films are “Frontera Sagrada: el alma del curandero,” an intimate portrait of traditional healers and their cultural relevance today; “From Abroad to the Border: The Journey of International Athletes,” which captures the challenges and triumphs of binational sports figures; “8M,” a compelling story of women’s resistance and strength; and “Quinceañera Traditions: From México to the Border,” a visual exploration of how this iconic celebration evolves across generations and geographies.
“These films don’t just tell stories, they carry lived experiences, family memories, and the rhythm of border life,” said Marcela Morán, TAMIU associate professor of communication, “Our students are using film as a form of cultural expression, academic inquiry, and above all, as a way to honor their roots.”
