TAMIU Grad Students Participate in First Pathways to Profession Symposium

Eleven Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) graduate students participated in the inaugural “Pathways to the Profession (P2P) Symposium” held Feb. 3 – 4, 2025 at Tarleton State University (TSU) in Stephenville, TX.
The Symposium empowers graduate students as they navigate the multifaceted transition from academia to professional careers. Sponsored by the Texas A&M University System, it brought together graduate students from all Texas A&M University System graduate schools.
Hosted by the TSU Graduate School, the Symposium united experts and aspiring professionals for dynamic discussions, skill-building workshops, and insightful talks. Themes covered included career development and personal growth to innovations and the future of work.
TAMIU Graduate School dean, Dr. Lola Norris, traveled with TAMIU graduate students and said the inaugural effort set an impressive benchmark.
“This initiative hopes to provide graduate students with practical tools, networking opportunities, and inspiration to shape meaningful and impactful careers, offering a productive and transformative experience for all our graduate students. I feel this first-ever initiative sets an impressive benchmark we look forward to expanding upon in the future,” Dr. Norris said.
She noted that an especially innovative element of the Symposium was the embedding of a ‘hackathon’ to inspire solutions for pressing challenges in graduate education and workforce readiness.
“This was a bold and engaging real-time exercise to brainstorm, collaborate, generate and present solutions for issues graduate students at all campuses may grapple with,” Norris observed.
