The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has designated 18 faculty members and 13 agency service, extension, or research professionals within the A&M System as Regents Professors and Regents Fellows for their exemplary performance during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU)’s Dr. Anna B. Cieslicka, professor of Psychology, was selected as a Regents Professor.

Bill Mahomes, Chairman of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, noted that each recipient has made significant contributions to their field and the State of Texas.

“Each of these distinguished individuals has made significant contributions to their fields and to the state of Texas.  Their achievements embody the A&M System’s mission of service and innovation, and I hope their dedication will motivate others,” Chairman Mahones said.

TAMIU provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Claudia San Miguel, shared her thoughts on Dr. Cieslicka’s selection.

“Dr. Cieslicka is a full Professor of Psychology who has been with TAMIU for 15 years and has had an outstanding academic career at our campus, excelling in teaching, research, and service. She is an excellent teacher and mentor to graduate and undergraduate students, as evidenced by her being awarded this award, as well as TAMIU’s 2012 University Teacher of the Year. She is also one of TAMIU’s top scientific researchers and was a recipient of TAMIU’s 2014 University Scholar of the Year award.

“Dr. Cieslicka's research primarily looks at the structure and function of the bilingual mental lexicon. In addition to her primary research on bilingual processing, she also focuses on two other areas. First, she explores how bilinguals and second/foreign language learners understand figurative language, leading to the development of the Literal Salience Model. Second, Dr. Cieslicka is involved in cutting-edge EEG (electroencephalogram)-ERPs (Event Related Potentials) methodology, which allows for recording neural correlates reflecting the underlying meaning integration processes occurring in real-time as participants read the presented language stimuli.

“It is my pleasure to congratulate Dr. Cieslicka on being named by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents as a Regents Professor. Being named by The Texas A&M Board of Regents as a Regents Professor is one of the greatest honors for faculty,” Dr. San Miguel observed.
