TAMIU Celebrates Vote Early Day
Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) All-In Democracy Task Force joined thousands of organizations across the country in celebrating Vote Early Day October 29.
Vote Early Day is a civic holiday founded by national nonprofits, businesses, election administrators, and influencers to ensure that every American has the tools and knowledge to cast their ballot early for the upcoming midterm election and beyond.
On Vote Early Day the TAMIU All-In Democracy Task Force, a campus-wide coalition of faculty, staff, and students, partnered with the TAMIU Student Government Association Political Action Committee and MOVE Texas to host a Party at the Polls event and free shuttles to early voting locations in Webb County.
The event featured lawn games, music, and food until supplies ran out. The free shuttles, sponsored by MOVE Texas ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from the TAMIU Student Center. The Party at the Polls events ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of the TAMIU Student Center.
The TAMIU All-In Democracy Task Force's goal is to help the TAMIU community cast their ballot before Election Day either at in-person locations for voting early or by mail. The Task Force aims to get 80% of TAMIU students who are registered to vote to turn out for the 2024 General Election.
Millions of Americans have options to vote early by mail or in person, but factors like long lines, busy schedules, confusing election laws, and voter disinformation can prevent voters from casting a ballot. By celebrating Vote Early Day, the TAMIU All-In Democracy Task Force provided voters a fun and exciting reason to vote early and make sure their voices were heard.
“When students vote early, they ensure that they have time to plan ahead for any obstacles that might get in the way of them making their voice heard,” said Dr. Nicholas Hudson, chair of the TAMIU All-In Democracy Task Force, “We celebrate Vote Early Day to make sure everyone has the tools they need to cast their ballot this Fall, and have a good time while doing it.”
The TAMIU All-In Democracy Task Force is proud to be one of a rapidly growing number of nonpartisan organizations to join Vote Early Day to empower their communities.
