TAMIU's Dr. Covarrubias Discusses Innovation in Cross-Border Trade at Las Vegas’ Manifest 2024
Recently, Dr. Daniel Covarrubias, director of the Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development (TCBEED), took the stage at Manifest: The Future of Supply Chain & Logistics 2024.
Held Feb. 5 - 7 in Las Vegas, NV, Manifest brought together Fortune 500 global supply chain executives, logistics service providers, cutting-edge startups, venture investors and technology leaders.
In a thought-provoking panel titled "Cross Border Shipping – From Compliance and Customs to Transport," Covarrubias was joined by fellow panelists Yikun Shao, head of North America Supply Chain at Alibaba; Evan Smith, CEO and Co-Founder of Altana Technologies and Alex Yancher, CEO and Co-Founder of Passport. VC Investor Michael Sachaj from Hyde Park Angels moderating the discussion.
Together, panelists discussed the significant impact of artificial intelligence and other exponential technologies on cross-border trade, supply chain visibility, the changing nature of global commerce, trends such as nearshoring and the evolving regulatory environment.
"Understanding the impact of regulations on commercial cross-border trade infrastructure is crucial for grasping the present and future landscape of global commerce. I discussed the significant implications of a recently passed bipartisan bill aimed at streamlining the construction of international bridges, which are vital for enhancing the efficiency of cross-border trade management. As nearshoring intensifies trade relations between the U.S. and Mexico, the demand for more robust infrastructure becomes increasingly urgent," Dr. Covarrubias emphasized.
Manifest 2024 attracted many participants and featured an expo space where innovative companies presented groundbreaking solutions.
"Manifest 2024 offered invaluable insights and fostered discussions critical for the evolution of the logistics and supply chain sectors," Covarrubias added.
