Activities Celebrate TAMIU’s First-Gen Week Nov. 8 – 12
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will celebrate the achievements of its first-generation students, faculty and staff with its First-Gen Week, Nov. 8 - 12.
First-generation (First-Gen) students are defined as individuals with parents who have not earned a four-year degree. At TAMIU, that’s over 64% of the student body.
TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said First-Gen students are setting a new benchmark for generations to come.
“Our campus is proud to welcome and serve a student body that is majority First-Gen. TAMIU was founded on serving the needs of an underserved region and delivering our mission of accessible, affordable and excellent higher education for all students guides us daily. First-Gen students are charting a new future that will bring generational change. Our students Go Beyond and this celebration recognizes them, and their bright futures,” Dr. Arenaz said.
The week-long celebration begins Monday, Nov. 8 with events aimed at paying tribute to the accomplishments of TAMIU students and providing support structures for academic and professional success before and after graduation.
A video series featuring TAMIU First-Gen students will also be shared on the University’s YouTube Channel.
