Perez Named TAMIU’s 2020 Outstanding Employee Service Award Recipient
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has named Juan G. Pérez, Recreational Sports’ fitness specialist, as the recipient of its 2020 Outstanding Employee Service Award.
TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz presented Pérez with his award: a plaque, reserved parking spot and $500 check.
Pérez, who has been part of the University’s staff for 4.5 years, oversees Group Fitness programs. He recruits, trains and prepares fitness instructors to teach classes and successfully complete their ACE Group Fitness Instructor Certification.
He said he was surprised with his nomination and award, but hopes it’s a reflection of his regard for his job and those he serves.
“I am honestly humbled by the whole experience. It’s a cliché, but I do love the people and students that I work with. I enjoy solving problems and creating programs, and it’s always more fun when you’re surrounded by creative minds and passionate souls,” he explained.
Pérez is a TAMIU alum and earned his BA in Psychology in 2013 and his MA in Sociology in 2019.

The annual Award is coordinated by the President’s Office and includes a nominee review group that determines the recipient based on campus-wide nominations.
