Program Information:
The mission of the Dr. F.M. Canseco School of Nursing is to prepare professional nurses to improve the wellbeing of complex and diverse populations. Our curriculum is aimed at educating advance practice nurse leaders who, through research, policy, and practice promote the health and wellbeing of local, national and international communities so that all people can thrive. In doing so, it underscores its geographic and institutional strengths to prepare nursing prospects.

The programs in the Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences are approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Program Requirements:

  • Registered Nurses seeking admission must complete and submit an application on Apply Texas
    • Deadline for Fall admission is May 31
    • Deadline for Spring admission is November 30
  • Baccalaureate nursing degree (BSN) from a nationally accredited university/college.
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate statistics course
  • Minimum 2.7 overall GPA and 3.0 upper-level GPA
  • Valid RN license without restrictions in the State of Texas. For recent graduates (2 semesters before admission), this can be waived, with the condition of having a valid RN license by the time of enrollment for NURS 5330 Advanced Health Assessment Theory and NURS 5331 Advanced Health Assessment Practicum.
  • Evidence of a minimum of one year of inpatient work experience as a Registered Nurse. For recent graduates (2 semesters before admission), this can be waived with the condition of having met the requirement by the time of enrollment for NURS 5330 Advanced Health Assessment Theory and NURS 5331 Advanced Health Assessment Practicum.
