Rosabel Ramos, MA, LPC-S
Director
Rosabel Ramos is the Director of Student Counseling at TAMIU. She attended the University of Texas-Pan American where she earned an MA in Clinical Psychology. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor. Rosabel leads and clinically trains accepted TAMIU MACP interns. She is a proud LGBTQ+ Ally and was previously the advisor for the student organization Campus Ally Network (C.A.N.) for 3 years, helping establish the now yearly held PRIDE week. She is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and is certified to provide Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

Daniel Alvarado, MA, LPC-S, LCDC
Assistant Director
Daniel is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in the State of Texas. He graduated with a master’s degree in clinical psychology from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He has more than 10 years of experience working in the field of mental health. He is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor. Additionally, he is also certified to provide Accelerated Resolution Therapy. As a therapist, Daniel aims to help clients challenge negative thoughts that hinder their personal growth and guide them to think meaningfully about how to cope with emotions that would otherwise subtly and covertly interfere with connecting to a better version of themselves.

Michelle Flores (Michelle Flores (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the State of Texas. Michelle is a graduate of TAMIU and obtained a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree in 2012. Her clinical interests include trauma, grief, resiliency, and relationships. Stephanie Hernandez, MA, LPC
Professional Counselor II
Stephanie Hernandez (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a proud TAMIU alumni. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. Stephanie has collected a total of 5 years working with TAMIU students, in which she considers her favorite population. Aside from working with the college population, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her loved ones, including her two dogs, exercising, and taking mini vacations when possible. Stephanie is a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

Jessica M. Garza MA, LPC, LCDC-I
Professional Counselor I
Jessica Garza-Arnold is a 2019 graduate from Texas A&M International University. She received her Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology. At which time, she began her professional career as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has previous experience working in trauma and crisis counseling programs. Garza-Arnold has worked with clients suffering from co-occurring disorders, childhood trauma, PTSD, major depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. She has worked with clients ranging in ages from children to adults. Jessica enjoys playing tennis and spending time with loved ones during her free time.

Professional Counselor I
Cristina Oviedo (she/her) earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology at Texas A&M International University in 2018. She continued to pursue her passion for mental health at TAMIU and earned her master’s in counseling psychology in 2021. Currently, she is continuing her professional journey as a licensed professional counselor associate. It is her hope to walk alongside her clients, offer them support, and guide them in discovering the tools they may need throughout their journey to better their mental health. Some of Cristina’s interests include cooking and baking.

Anissa Aguilar MA, LPC Associate
Professional Counselor I
Anissa Aguilar (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the State of Texas. She attended Texas State University earning a B.A. in Psychology and Communication, that ultimately defined a pathway to obtain her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from TAMIU. Anissa believes that fostering healthy relationships and developing adaptive coping skills are not only fundamental parts of personal growth but are also the building blocks of professional success at the university-level and beyond. As a first-generation graduate, creating opportunities for learning and resiliency has become a life-long mission for Anissa. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, reading, traveling, and listening to podcasts.

Julio Urbina, MA, LPC Associate
Professional Counselor I
Julio Urbina is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. He received his M.A. in Counseling Psychology in 2021, from Texas A&M International University. Throughout his counseling experience, Julio has been able to provide services in community mental health and private practice settings. As a TAMIU alumni, he feels gratitude and excitement in being able to assist the present student population. Moved by the resilience of those he has worked with, Julio shares a great passion in being able to be a part of people’s journeys in healing and self-discovery. In his free time, Julio enjoys spending time with his loved ones and watching his favorite sports.

Benjamin Silva, MA, LPC Associate
Professional Counselor I
Benjamin Silva Jr. is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. He has worked with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and addiction. “Benji” is proud to help others overcome obstacles to move forward in their lives. He continues to advocate for self-care and encourage others to find strength in asking for assistance. Benji believes counseling can help people find new perspectives and meaning and hopes it sparks motivation to make necessary changes for long-term goals. He can spend hours discussing pop culture and finds comfort in watching his favorite movie or show.

Athena Perez
Administrative Assistant
Athena Perez is the office administrative assistant. Athena completed her associate’s degree in psychology at Laredo College. She has been providing her expertise in office administration for over five years at different locations. She enjoys providing great customer service to all the TAMIU community members. Some of Athena’s hobbies include spending time with my fur-babies. She is passionate about reading and exploring new books. Recently her reading materials have been focused on mystery and true crime. Typically, Athena starts a new book every week. She also enjoys coffee and exploring new coffee shops.
