This is an excellent opportunity to recognize and celebrate the outstanding educators who are making a significant impact on our bilingual and ESL students.

Mrs. Edna A. Pérez

Mrs. Edna A. Pérez, a dedicated bilingual teacher at A.T. Dovalina Elementary in the Laredo Independent School District, has made a lasting impact on her students through her commitment to bilingual education and innovative teaching practices. Inspired by her experiences facing prejudice as a Hispanic woman, she has become a passionate advocate for language minority students. She led a project that enabled her second graders to write and publish their own books, culminating in a "Meet the Author" event praised by local media. Her assistant principal describes her classroom as a "haven of inclusion, respect, and academic excellence," recognizing her ability to create a supportive environment where all students thrive. Mrs. Pérez is also a mentor to her peers, a cheerleading sponsor, and a consistent recipient of Teacher of the Month honors. Her contributions extend beyond the classroom, making her a deserving candidate for the 2024 Bilingual/ESL Teacher of the Year Award.
