Saul Olivo

Saul Olivo

Saul Olivo graduated with a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering in May 2023. During his LSAMP fellowship, he was able to present his research, "Machine Learning for Network Intrusion Detection – A Comparative Study" at IISE (Institute of Industrial and System Engineers) Lean Six Sigma & Data Science in Atlanta, Georgia back in September 2022. The article was published in “Future Internet Journal” in the summer of 2023. Thanks to the knowledge he acquired at TAMIU, and the opportunities granted by LSAMP, he was able to land multiple job offers from companies such as J.P. Morgan, Chase, Raytheon Technology, Northrop Grumman, and USSA. He decided to accept an offer as a Software Engineer for Bank of America.


Student Highlights - Alejandro Garcia

 Alejandro Garcia 

An LSAMP Fellow and Scholar, Alejandro presented a research project titled, “Machine Learning for Network Intrusion Detection- A Comparative Study,” at the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Lean Six Sigma & Data Science Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 19- 21, 2022. He is a member of the very first class of graduates from TAMIU’s computer engineering program in Fall 2022. He did an internship with Honeywell Aerospace, which is one of the top corporations in the world in the Summer of 2022 as a Software Engineer. During his internship, he supported the development of practices to automate testing practices. He received multiple job offers, from Honeywell and other Fortune 500 companies, and decided to join Capital One as an Associate Software Engineer.


Ian Lopez

Ian Lopez

He is a member of the very first class of graduates from TAMIU’s petroleum engineering program in Spring 2022 and was the first student of the program to be inducted into the Undergraduate Honors and Research Program at TAMIU. As an LSAMP Fellow and scholar, he won a top 3 award for his research work titled “Improving CO2 Storage and Oil Recovery in Shale Oil Reservoirs using Dual Lateral Wells” at the 2022 TAMUS Pathways research conference. In addition to TAMUS Pathways, Ian’s research was also presented at the prestigious annual Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) in Houston, TX, in June 2022. He was an intern for Killam Oil Company while he was studying full time at TAMIU. He was able to re-establish a club for Petroleum Engineering students, which focuses on helping students advance their education in the field of Petroleum Engineering and be able to communicate with Petroleum Engineering students at Texas A&M in College Station. This club allows students to attend technical conferences, web seminars, and hiring events when hosted. He also received multiple job offers from top oil and gas companies and decided to join CUDD Energy Services as a Field Engineer.


Hadi Hisojo Romero

Hadi Hisojo Romero

In Spring 2022, LSAMP Scholar Hadi Hisojo Romero attended the American Chemical Society (ACS) 2022 Annual Spring Conference held in San Diego, California. Hadi presented a research poster titled, “Phytochemical Analysis of Combretum Farinosum.” During her time at the conference, Hadi was approached by faculty members of Old Dominion University, who encouraged her to apply for Ph.D. programs at the university and join their research lab. Hadi graduated from Texas A&M International University on May 2022, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Regarding her experience at ACS through LSAMP sponsorship Hadi said, “It was life-changing and made me realize how I was prepared for graduate school by getting rid of some fears I had.” We are pleased to share that Hadi applied and has been accepted into a Ph.D. program under the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Old Dominion University and has now started doing research on organo-gelators and their environmental applications.


Student Highlights - Marshal Moncivais

Marshal Moncivais

Marshal Moncivais is a TAMIU LSAMP undergraduate research participant pursuing a Bachelor of Science with Double Major in Political Science and Computer Science. His research focuses on software architecture and current implementation of the Generalized Spatio-Temporal Role-Based Access Control Model (GSTRBAC). Marshal presented his research at the Consortium for Computing Services in Colleges: South Central Conference held in Richardson, Texas, on April 9, 2021. He has also been selected to participate in the Summer Research Program in Security and Privacy for Mobile Sensing and the Internet of Things at Columbus State University


Student Highlights - David Ramon

David Ramon II

David Ramon is a TAMIU LSAMP undergraduate research participant since Fall 2020. He will be graduating in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Throughout his time in the LSAMP program, he received guidance and aid from the faculty members while he was interviewing for medical school. He was recently accepted into the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine Program at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, Illinois, where he will earn his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree.


Student Highlights - Mario Fuentes

Mario Fuentes

Mario Fuentes is a TAMIU LSAMP alumni. He was an LSAMP undergraduate research participant since Fall 2019. Mario graduated from TAMIU with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering in May 2020. As an LSAMP Scholar, he won 2nd Place in the Engineering Category for Undergraduate Projects Poster Competition at the 16th Annual TAMUS Pathways Student Research Symposium, which was held in Laredo, TX, November 7-8, 2019. Mario is currently employed as a Data Engineer at USAA, a leading provider of insurance, investing, and banking solutions to members of the U.S. military and veterans. As of Fall 2020, Mario has joined the LSAMP Student Advisory Board for the Alliance.
