UPD Communications Unit
The Communications Division at the Texas A&M International University is the hub of the University's safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including the holidays.
As the primary answering point for all calls that originate within the University, the division is responsible for maintaining effective and efficient communications between the University Police Department, police officers in the field, the community, and other agencies.
The Division is staffed by an Office Coordinator, five 911-TCLEOSE certified Telecommunication Operators, and six student employees/parking enforcers.
The Communications Department answers all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatches them accordingly. Operators are qualified and prepared to take a wide range of calls, including those being made by the hearing disabled with the aid of a TDD(Telecommunications Device for the Deaf) to better serve our University community. Our department works closely with surrounding agencies such as the Laredo Police Department (LPD), Webb County Sheriff's Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Laredo Fire/EMS Department should a crisis arise.
The communications division monitors building alarms and handles all parking enforcement duties such as the clearing of parking citations and issuing temporary parking permits.
