TAMIU, LC Join Forces for TAMIU Day

Laredo’s two institutions of higher education, Laredo College (LC) and Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), continued their tradition of collaboration with the recent presentation of TAMIU Open House at LC, a strategic opportunity for LC students to explore transfer pathways to their hometown University.
LC students met outside the Kazen Student Center with TAMIU service representatives from admissions, financial aid, housing, the testing center, student engagement offices, and more. TAMIU faculty offered insight from the University's five Colleges and Schools. Snacks and refreshments were provided.
Juan G. García, Jr. TAMIU vice president for Student Enrollment, praised the future-focused shared initiative.
“We’re enormously grateful to LC president Dr. Minita Ramírez and the entire LC team for their partnership and shared vision in presenting this annual event. The TAMIU Open House reinforces the strong partnership between us and our mutual commitment to student success. It offers students the chance to look into their future and the dynamic TAMIU possibilities available after their excellent preparation at LC. It’s always a successful event and we’re excited to help students anticipate their next chapter,” García noted.
Mirian Granados, director of TAMIU’s Office of Recruitment and School concurred, noting the Open House provides targeted and meaningful assistance of importance for transfer students seeking admission to the University.
“Our Open House at Laredo College always offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking one-on-one assistance from our team of dedicated staff members. We want to ensure a smooth transition for our transfer students by offering the crucial support needed to ensure success. Students also enjoy the opportunity to meet with our gifted faculty and explore their degree interests with them,” Granados explained.
LC and TAMIU also teamed up March 22 for the presentation of the University’s annual “The Big Event,” a community service event that involved over 500 TAMIU and LC students in service projects at Haynes Recreation Center, Arturo Benavides Park, and Slaughter Park.
TAMIU has a diverse enrollment of over 8,900 students from 31 countries and 28 US states. It nurtures its students’ academic and social development through instruction, research, and service to be responsible and productive members of the global society.
