TAMIU Spring Seminar Series Concludes Friday with Presentation by Dr. Viloria

The Texas A&M International University Office of Research and Sponsored Projects will conclude its Spring Seminar Series showcasing research conducted by TAMIU faculty members who have successfully secured grants to fund sponsored research projects on April 11, 2025.
Dr. Lourdes Viloria, associate professor, College of Education, whose research, “Building Academic Success Early for STEM (BASE), has been funded by the National Science Foundation with a grant award of $199,998, concludes the Series. Her presentation will be at 12 noon in the Academic Innovation Center West Lobby.
The Series, launched last Fall, aims to highlight the broad range of research conducted by TAMIU faculty that is funded by various governmental agencies and foundations, said Dr. Ruby Ynalvez, associate vice president, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects.
“This Series allows us to celebrate our faculty, learn about their research undertakings, share their funding journey, and encourage other TAMIU faculty members to explore the full spectrum of funding opportunities available to fuel their research interests,” Dr. Ynalvez said.
Four research presentations were scheduled this semester. The first, in January, featured Dr. Ediza García, associate professor of Psychology, sharing her thoughts on her $2.9 million Department of Education grant to study student emotional and academic success.
In February, Dr. Ken Tobin, professor of Geology and interim associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, provided insight into his Department of Energy grant Award for $121,669 to study DOE-Root Zone Soil Moisture.
In March Dr. Deepak Ganta associate professor, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, shared his research, “Investigating the Impact of an Active Learning, Informed, and Creative Video-based Psychosocial Enrichment Intervention on Retention of Hispanic Engineering Students,” funded by a $200,000 grant award from the National Science Foundation.
