TAMIU Spring Seminar Series Showcases Faculty Research, Grant-funded Successes

The Texas A&M International University Office of Research and Sponsored Projects has announced its Spring Seminar Series showcasing research conducted by TAMIU faculty members who have successfully secured grants to fund sponsored research projects.
The Series, launched last Fall, aims to highlight the broad range of research conducted by TAMIU faculty that is funded by various governmental agencies and foundations, said Dr. Ruby Ynalvez, associate vice president, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects.
“This Series allows us to celebrate our faculty, learn about their research undertakings, share their funding journey, and encourage other TAMIU faculty members to explore the full spectrum of funding opportunities available to fuel their research interests,” Dr. Ynalvez said.
Four research presentations are scheduled this semester, held at noon in the west lobby of the Academic Innovation Center (AIC). The first, Jan. 30, featured Dr. Ediza García.
The next Series offering is Friday, Feb. 28. Dr. Ken Tobin, professor of Geology and interim associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences and a prolific researcher, will provide insight into his TAMIU-ARC grant award, “Tracking Graduate Student Success at a Hispanic Serving Institution,” funded by the U.S. Department of Education for $2.9 million.
Remaining Series presentations include:
Friday, March 28 -- Dr. Deepak Ganta, associate professor, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, will share details on his research, “Investigating the Impact of an Active Learning, Informed, and Creative Video-based Psychosocial Enrichment Intervention on Retention of Hispanic Engineering Students,” funded by a $200,000 grant award from the National Science Foundation.
