Four Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) College of Education faculty members were selected to present their research at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the premier national conference in the field of education.

Their work was chosen from thousands of submissions, placing them among a select group of about 30% of applicants accepted to present to some 11,000+ attendees.

The conference theme, "Research, Remedy, and Repair: Toward Just Education Renewal," focuses on addressing inequality in education and finding solutions that create more equitable learning environments. The conference is happening in Denver, Co., in April 2025.

Invited University faculty members, and their topics of research to be presented are:

  • Dr. Youmna Deiri, assistant professor of Education, focuses on how education is influenced by social, political, and economic factors, along with efforts to foster collaboration and community connections.
  • Dr. Christian Faltis, professor of Bilingual Education and College of Education chair of Educational Programs focuses on innovative strategies to support students from diverse language backgrounds.
  • Dr. Cynthia Gallardo, assistant professor of Education, research focuses on educational leadership and how leaders impact institutions and student success.
  • Dr. James O'Meara, dean of the College of Education, focuses his research on the internationalization of teacher education, and teacher policy, with a goal of preparing educators throughout their careers to better serve students of the region, nation, and world.

These achievements highlight the College of Education's efforts in fostering an intellectual environment that promotes active and widely recognized faculty scholarship, addressing critical educational challenges ranging from teacher development to bilingual education and community engagement, explained O'Meara.

"TAMIU is proud of this achievement, which underscores the College of Education's dedication to creating impactful research that benefits students and educators locally and globally. By sharing their work at AERA, these scholars contribute to shaping the future of teacher and principal preparation and promoting quality education for all learners," said O'Meara.
