TAMIU's Dr. Daniel Covarrubias Presents New Book on U.S.-México Trade at CiLOG 2024
Dr. Daniel Covarrubias, director of Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development, will discuss his latest book, "Navigating the New Era of U.S.-México Trade," on Monday, September 11 at the International Congress on Logistics and Supply Chain (CiLOG) 2024. The book provides insights into how cross-border logistics and trade are changing under the USMCA.
The book presentation is part of CiLOG 2024, taking place from Sept. 10 - 12 at TAMIU. The conference theme is "Harnessing the Future of Logistics: Exploring the Role of Logistechs."
The book presentation, set for 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, will include a panel discussion featuring the author and industry experts. This event is expected to be a highlight of CiLOG 2024, giving attendees a chance to learn about the latest trends and strategies in U.S.-México trade relations.
Dr. Covarrubias emphasized the book's timeliness and relevance, especially to the arena of U.S.-México business and trade.
"In an era of rapid change, understanding the nuances of U.S.-México trade is crucial for businesses, policymakers, and academics. This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state and future prospects of cross-border commerce," he said.
In-depth topics covered in the book include the development of Port Laredo, the emergence of Logistechs, and the effects of blockchain and artificial intelligence on logistics. It also covers regionalization and nearshoring, as well as issues like the "digital wall."
The interdependence of infrastructure, technology, and human capital in cross-border trade is one of the book's main themes.
"Our research highlights the need for investment in these areas to build a more resilient and prosperous bilateral partnership," Dr. Covarrubias said.
The panel will feature Dr. Covarrubias, Gerardo (Gerry) Schwebel, Executive Vice President of the Corporate International Division at IBC Bank, and Andrew I. Rudman, Senior Associate of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). The discussion will be moderated by Juan Villa, Manager of the International Trade and Border Transportation Program at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute.
This session is expected to attract logistics professionals, trade policy experts, business leaders, and academics. It will cover key topics such as the USMCA’s impact on cross-border trade, emerging trends in supply chain management and logistics, the role of technology in international commerce, and strategies for thriving in the new trade landscape.
Released in September, Covarrubias's book has already made a significant impact. It achieved #1 in New Releases for Exports & Imports Economics and in Management Information Systems, and #10 in the Transportation Industry categories on Amazon. These rankings reflect the book's timely relevance in U.S.-México trade relations.
"I'm thrilled by the initial response to the book," Covarrubias said. "These rankings reflect the growing interest in understanding the complexities of cross-border trade and the need for innovative approaches in logistics and supply chain management."
