TAMIU Hosts Binational Art Exhibition, Winners Named

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) hosted the work of Laredo and Nuevo Laredo visual artists as part of the IX Binational Plastic Art Exhibition. 

The exhibit was displayed at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center through Friday, Sept. 20.

The binational exhibit focused on promoting the cultural identity of the U.S.–México border and also shared the artistry of local talent. The theme, “Bridges and Border Crossings,” focuses on subjects like commerce, culture, heritage, unity,  and more.

Contest organizers appointed a jury of three members, who selected 12 works to be included in an upcoming calendar, as well as three exhibit winners.  

Artistry was judged based on technical skill, composition, aesthetic elements, originality, and interpretation of the exhibit’s theme.

Winners were announced on Sept. 20  on the Instituto Cultural Mexicano de Laredo Facebook page.

They were:

First Place:  Awarded to Ayari Salazar for "Puente de Hermandad" who received a laptop and medal of recognition.
Second Place: Awarded to Margarita Decanini Molano for "Compartiendo la Fe y las Tradiciones."
Third Place:  Awarded to Paty C. Orduña for " Río Picasso."
Second and Third place awardees received medals of recognition.
 
Event judges included Gayle Aker Rodríguez of  Gallery 201, Maritza Bautista of Daphne Art, and  Esther Alicia Valerio of Patronato Cultural Nuevo Laredo, A.C.

Previously, the artwork was displayed at the Reyes Meza Museum in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México.

The exhibition was sponsored by the Consulado General de México in Laredo, Instituto Cultural Mexicano de Laredo, Gobierno de Nuevo Laredo, Museo Reyes Meza, and TAMIU.
