TAMIU Colleges of Education Dean Dr. James O'Meara said that competing at the Conference prepares students to display their capabilities and leadership at a national level.
"Competing at the Educators Rising National Conference provides a venue for our TAMIU students to showcase their dedication, creativity, and leadership on a national stage," he said, "Competing at this event significantly enhances their professional growth and the status of the teaching profession in Laredo."
Educators Rising is a community-based model, in which chapters at schools feed teacher preparation programs at institutions of higher education with the support of state departments of Education and local funders and foundations. These entities come together to provide a clear pathway to address teacher shortages and educators reflect the communities they serve.
TAFE is a co-curricular, statewide, non-profit student organization created to allow young men and women an opportunity to explore the teaching profession. It was created in 1984 to provide the best and brightest high school and middle school students in Texas with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions about pursuing careers in education. TAFE is sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and governed by a board of directors comprised of teachers, students and principals.
