TAMIU Inks New Transfer Agreement With Southwest Texas Junior College
With the signature strokes of multiple pens, a new agreement between Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) has forged a new educational partnership between the two institutions.
In ceremonies Tuesday in Eagle Pass at the SWTJC campus, TAMIU has committed to a shared path benefiting students and their higher education goals via an Articulated Transfer Agreement.
TAMIU President Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the Agreement codifies a shared commitment to higher education for the students of South Texas.
“As a regional university of choice, this accord sets up major principles and expectations of our shared cooperation and collaboration with SWTJC. It enhances the transfer of degree-seeking SWTJC students to TAMIU. We are thrilled to have earned the partnership of SWTJC and look forward to helping transfer students complete their undergraduate degrees at TAMIU,” Dr. Arenaz said.
Dr. Hector Gonzales, SWTJC President, concurred.
“We are excited to announce this new transfer partnership that will expand the educational opportunities to all SWTJC students. This agreement will ensure that all course credits taken at our institution, including all of the 22 school districts where we provide dual credit, will transfer directly to TAMIU with over 100 degrees possible at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels,” Dr. Gonzales, said.
TAMIU Vice President for Enrollment Management Juan Gilberto García, Jr. said the Agreement focuses on seamless exchanges of information and helpful resources for SWTJC students.
“Among provisions of the TAMIU-SWTJC Agreement are a variety of institutional collaborations and the development of web-published transfer guides for degree programs that share the acceptance of credits applicable to the plan’s degree program. The Agreement also sets in place institutional guidance on admissions and recruiting and the opportunity for the completion of an Associate degree or reverse transfer,” García explained.
He also noted that Eagle Pass is home to a large number of TAMIU alumni, and some attended the transfer agreement ceremony.
