'Oh, You’re An ‘Artist?’ Exhibit Closes Friday

Senior Art Show Spring 2019

The artwork of 26 Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) senior art students will be on display through Friday, April 26 in an exhibit at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts' Gallery, titled, “Oh, You’re An ‘Artist?’”

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Several art mediums are on display, including ceramics, digital media, painting, performance art, printmaking, sculpture and much more.

Natasha Hovey, assistant professional for the College of Arts and Sciences’ department of Fine and Performing Arts noted that the collection features each students’ work from their final semester. Hovey asserts that these exhibits provide community members with opportunities to support burgeoning visual artists.

“The visual arts can facilitate conversations surrounding culture, identity, and politics. As artists, we are asked to question, celebrate, challenge, and respond to our society in a direct way through a variety of mediums. In turn, the community can help support the development of their practices and efforts to share their talents and engage locally, nationally, and internationally,” Hovey said.

Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.

For additional information, contact Hovey at 956.326.2649, email natasha.hovey@tamiu.edu or visit offices in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.

University office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
