Laredo’s Texas A&M University System Student Regent to Reflect on Historic Term Thursday
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Stephanie Martínez, the first Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) student and first female Hispanic student ever to serve as the Texas A&M University System’s Student Regent, on Thursday will participate in the final regular meeting of her term on the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.
Shortly after the board convenes in open session at 1:30 p.m., Student Regent Martínez is scheduled to provide public remarks reflecting on her experiences during her historic term, the state of the student body in the A&M System, the effectiveness of the Student Regent position, and other topics.

Martínez’s term officially expires on May 31, 2017. She was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott in May 2016, and began her duties on June 1 of that year.
A first generation college student, Martínez is currently pursuing her master’s degree in communication at TAMIU, where she also completed her undergraduate degree.
