TAMIU ‘Wild, Tame, Wild’ Art Exhibit, Reception Scheduled Oct. 1

Deborah Mersky Artwork

The 2015-16 art season kicks off at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) with an exhibit of new work by Deborah Mersky, “Wild, Tame, Wild” which opens with a reception Thursday, Oct. 1 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Mersky will hold a talk and demo at TAMIU Saturday, Nov. 7 from 3 – 5 p.m.

Mersky has experience as both a studio artist and a designer in the field of public art. In addition to drawing and painting, she uses a clay printing technique that she developed and refined. Her work has been shown nationally in galleries and in collections as diverse as Microsoft and Fundación Altos de Chavón in the Dominican Republic.

In the field of public art, she has created art for libraries, hospitals, parks, light rail and public utility facilities in Washington, Oregon, California, Minnesota and Texas.

“In both realms, the overlapping worlds of nature and human habitation on earth is what interests me, particularly the delicate, off kilter moment we currently reside in,” wrote Mersky in her biography.

Mersky received her BA in anthropology and art from Evergreen State College, Olympia, Wash., and her MFA in painting from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 pm., Monday – Thursday and by appointment.
