TAMIU’s Thompson Lectures Tonight on Civil War

Dr. Jerry Thompson, Texas A&M International University Regents Professor of History, will present the lecture “The Civil War on the Texas Mexican Border” on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 6- 9 p.m. at the Villa Antigua Border Heritage Museum at 810 Zaragoza Street downtown.

The lecture is free of charge and open to the public.

It is part of an opening reception and commemoration of the Texas Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War hosted by The Texas Historical Commission (THC) and the Webb County Heritage Foundation (WCHF).

It features an exhibit of historic photos and artifacts of the Civil War as experienced on the Texas-Mexican border.

The program will also feature William McWhorter, THC Military Sites Program Coordinator who will present a workshop on the Palmito Ranch Battlefield National Historic Landmark funded by the Society of the Order of the Southern Cross.
