TAMIU-SBDC Sets Quickbooks Workshop Oct. 3

The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will sponsor a hands-on workshop on “How to Manage Your Business Finances with QuickBooks Pro” on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Pellegrino Hall, room 211.

A $50 fee will include workbook and lunch. Limited seating is available. Interested persons should call the TAMIU-SBDC office at 326.2827, or e-mail sbdc@tamiu.edu

Richard Pérez, SBDC director, explained that the days of manually posting transactions to journals and ledgers are gone. Computer technology has ushered accounting into a new generation. The benefit for business owners is the opportunity to participate at a higher level in the financial administration of their businesses.

Invoicing, sales receipts check writing, and the subsequent flow of information into a cash-in bank register are among the important basic features found in most accounting software applications. However, these processes represent only a small portion of the accounting procedures that can now be done electronically through software like QuickBooks.

The Oct. 3 workshop will include the following:

• What is financial management?
• Easy step interview tips (new company set-up)
• Chart of accounts
• How to add items, customers and vendors
• Managing sales and expenses
• Budgeting and reports
• Resources and tips.
