NASA Astronaut to Speak at TAMIU May 1

Find out about space exploration from a National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut, José Hernández, Thursday, May 1at the Texas A&M International University Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 116.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided during a social from 5:30 – 6 p.m. and the presentation starts at 6 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public. Middle and high school students are strongly encouraged to attend.

Hernández received his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of the Pacific and his M.S. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California-Santa Barbara. He joined the Johnson Space Center in Houston in 2001 and completed his training as an astronaut in 2006.

He is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists. He has received many awards including a NASA Service Award, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory “Outstanding Engineer Award and the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences department of mathematical and physical sciences and the IEEE Corpus Christi Section (IEEE-CC). The event is funded by the IEEE-CC and a grant from the Texas Space Grant Consortium.
