Registration Deadline for University's Kids, Teen Summer Programs June 10

Parents are reminded that regular registration for Texas A&M International University's Children's Summer Workshop, for 1st-6th graders, or Summer Academy, for 7th-11th graders ends Tuesday, June 10.

After June 10, late registrations will be accepted on a space available basis and will be subject to a $25 late registration fee.

Registration fee for the Children's Summer Workshop is $200 per child and $180 for each additional child. A $10 science lab fee and $10 computer lab fee will be assessed for science and computer courses.

Cost of the Summer Academy is $275 per participant. Additional lab fees for sculpture, science, drawing, or computer courses are as follows: $25 sculpture lab fee, $20 science lab fee, $10 drawing lab fee, and $10 computer lab fee.

Both four-week summer programs will be held at the University's main campus weekdays from June 23 - July 18, with classes dismissed July 4 for the Independence Day holiday.

The Children's Summer Workshop will be held in the mornings from 8:30 a.m. - 12 noon. Participants attend three 1-hour courses of their choice, based on availability and on the grade level the participant will be entering during the 1997-1998 school year.

Course offerings for the Children's Summer Workshop include Computer Whizz; Non-Competitive Co-Op Sports; FUNdamentals of Cheerleading; Tall Tales: Publish a Book; Charm and Etiquette for Girls; Call of the Wild: Adventures in Science; Scrap Book Design; Figure It Out: Math Fun; and Artistic Hodgepodge.

The Summer Academy, for teenagers in grades 7th - 11th, will be held in the afternoons from 12 noon - 5 p.m.. Participants attend three 1 hour courses of their choice, based on availability and on the grade level the participant will be entering during the 1997-1998 school year.

Courses available for 9th - 11th grade participants include Internet Home Page Design on Macintosh; Understanding Self Through Hypnosis; Verbal Power: ACT/SAT Grammar/Vocabulary Review; Who Dunit?: Forensics; Creative Sculpture; SAT Preparation--Computer Interactive; Drawing; Theater Antics; ACT/SAT Math Preparation; Computer Graphics; and Co-ed Basketball.

Courses available for 7th - 8th grade participants include Who Dunit?: Forensics; Creative Sculpture; Understanding Self Through Hypnosis; Internet for Fun and Research; Co-ed Basketball; PSAT Math Preparation; Theater Antics; and English Grammar: In Plain English.
