Texas A&M International University will present a free talk on Date Rape Tuesday, September 10 at 12:00 noon in Building C room 112 on the University's north Laredo campus, 5201 University Boulevard. The talk is being sponsored by the University's Office of Student Health Services.

Presenter for this informative talk will be Dr. Susan M. Perry, Assistant Professor of Psychology at A&M International.

Dr. Perry will discuss how rape is defined and how our definitions of rape affect our attitudes towards it. She will explain rape myths and present models of why victims of rape are sometimes blamed when they are victimized.

Perry will also discuss the findings of a rape attitudes and perception survey A&M International Psychology students conducted this summer. Over 1,500 community members and University students provided responses for the survey.

Her findings will later be published in a scholarly journal.

Perry holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology with a minor in Quantitative Methods from the University of Houston. Her MA in General Experimental Psychology and BA in Psychology were earned from the University of Texas at El Paso.
