Campus Security Authorities

Primary Responsibility

A Campus Security Authority's (CSA) primary responsibility is to report allegations of crimes they receive to the reporting structure established by the institution. All crimes should be promptly reported to the University Police Department for review and investigation as appropriate.

University Police Department

Under the Clery Act all employees of the University Police Department are Campus Security Authorities (CSA).

Non-law enforcement facility and event access monitors

This category includes University uniformed personnel who have the authority to deny access to facilities and/or events. cashiers in food service venues do not meet the qualifications of a CSA.

Departments/Employees having significant responsibility for student activities

TAMIU has designated the following departments and positions as having significant responsibility for student activities. While the preferred method of reporting crime is always direct to the University Police Department, the following departments and their supervising management structure have been designated as CSAs

Departments where all employees are Campus Security Authorities under this definition:

  1. Department of Intercollegiate Athletics
  2. Student Orientation, Leadership, and Engagement
  3. Student Conduct and Community Engagement
  4. Recreational Sports
  5. International Experiences
  6. Housing and Residence Life* (professional and resident assistant staff only)

Employees designated as Campus Security Authorities under this definition:

  1. Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators
  2. Vice President for Student Engagement
  3. Director of Advising and Mentoring
  4. Director of Human Resources
  5. Director of the Texas Academy
